Almigdad Ibrahim

Born in Doha, Qatar, and raised in Qatar and Sudan, Almigdad is currently pursuing his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at McMaster University. He has completed his PhD coursework with an outstanding GPA of 4.0/4.0, focusing his research on the Mechanical and Microstructural Assessment of Materials for Advanced Nuclear Applications.

After completing his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Khartoum in Sudan, Almigdad earned a full scholarship from the Ministry of Higher Education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to pursue his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering department at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM). His specialization includes finite element analysis (Abaqus and Ansys), fatigue and fracture of engineering materials, welding processes and metallurgy, manufacturing processes analysis, thermodynamics of materials, advanced materials science, and materials characterization. His master’s thesis, titled “Developing Friction Stir Diffusion Cladding Process,” aimed to develop a new solid-state cladding process for joining aluminum alloy to carbon steel using Friction Stir Welding principles. The outcome of his research was an effective corrosion-resistant cladding suitable for water desalination, petrochemical, and oil and gas industries. He completed his master’s degree with a CGPA of 3.62/4.0, undertook various research projects, and published five research articles in high-impact journals such as the Journal of Manufacturing Processes, Metals (MDPI), and the Journal of Materials Research and Technology.

Almigdad also holds a two-year diploma in Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE/NDT) from Durham College, where he received the OPG Scholarship for best academic performance in the NDE program with a CGPA of 3.96/4.0.

In his professional career, Almigdad has worked for several prestigious industrial companies. In his most recent role at CANATOM Power Group, he contributed to the Refurbishment and Replacement of the Fuel Channels (RFR) in Unit #3 reactor at Darlington Nuclear Power Station.

He is passionate about soccer, entrepreneurship, innovation, science, and volunteering. Almigdad has demonstrated his entrepreneurial skills by winning first place in the pitching competition for seed funding at Dhahran Techno Valley (DTV).
