Born in Toronto, Ontario, Jaiden Fairclough is currently a student of the Ph.D. program in Civil Engineering at York University where he is researching sustainable geotechnical engineering. He completed my Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.), Specialized Honours in Civil Engineering, at York University in April of 2024 and his Master of Applied Science (M.A.Sc.) in Civil Engineering, in August of 2026.
Through the Research at York (RAY) program under the supervision of Professor Kamelia Atefi-Monfared and attending the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy (WISE) conference in 2023 he began researching renewable energy systems. He completed his M.A.Sc. investigating the feasibility of geothermal systems—specifically standing column wells—in northern climates, which he is continuing to investigate in his Ph.D. In addition to this research, he is involved in a pilot project in southwest Yukon that explores the retrofitting of an existing well into a geothermal system.
Outside of his scholarly endeavors he enjoys reading comic books, playing video games and participating in extracurricular activities offered in the Lassonde School of Engineering. He created and assisted in the creation of the first ever Canadian National Steel Bridge Competition (CNSBC) team, for which is currently a student mentor, and Canadian National Concrete Canoe Competition (CNCCC) teams respectively. Currently involved with the Civil Engineering Graduate Student Association (CEGSA) as the Geotechnical Student Representative.
