Kejah Bascon

IBET Momentum Fellow at University of Toronto

Kejah Bascon is an IBET Momentum Fellow and Mechanical Engineering PhD candidate whose research focuses on robotic surgery and haptic sensing. She conducts her research jointly at the University of Toronto and The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), where she explores how to design and prototype tactile hardware and control strategies that allow robotic systems to handle surgical instruments more safely and reliably. By combining mechanics, sensing, and prototyping, she aims to inform the next generation of surgical robotic platforms and devices.

Kejah holds a BA in Cognitive Psychology and a Master’s in Neuroscience from Carleton University, and her path is interdisciplinary, spanning medicine, engineering, and emerging technologies. Her long-term goal is to become a neurosurgeon and an astronautical engineer, using her doctoral work as a technical bridge between surgical robotics, defence applications, and aerospace systems. Her trajectory reflects her belief that disciplined, sustained effort can open doors to opportunities that once seemed out of reach academically.
