Ola Ali

Ola Ali(she/her), a seasoned researcher with over 9 years of R&D experience in the oil and gas industry, is now pursuing her PhD at the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Waterloo. Her research focuses on AI-driven techniques for process flowsheet optimization in carbon capture technologies. Ola is passionate about smart and efficient collaborations between industry and academia to help mitigate the pressing challenges of climate change.

Ola was born and raised in Sudan, where she earned her undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Khartoum. Working as a TA after graduation helped Ola discover a profound love for scientific research. She earned an M.Sc. Degree from KAUST, Saudi Arabia, researching cross-linked regenerated cellulose membranes for ultrafiltration applications in pharmaceutical processes. Aside from research, Ola enjoys reading, travelling and volunteering in kids activities.
