Tobechukwu (Tobe) Ohaka

IBET Momentum Fellow at University of Waterloo

Tobechukwu (Tobe for short) is a Nigerian born, Toronto-raised researcher currently pursuing his PhD in polymer science in Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo.

He earned his undergraduate degree at the same department, where his passion for polymer science first bloomed. During his undergraduate studies, Tobe completed several research co-op placements, including a particularly formative experience at Aliaxis’ IPEX. It was there that his fascination with polymers began, eventually steering him towards graduate studies and taking a deeper dive into material science.

Outside of the lab, Tobe brings his energetic spirit to the world around him. He loves making people smile and often channels his creativity into visual arts. Whether he’s experimenting with new ideas or mediums, he’s always looking for ways to blend science with expression.
